University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center

The University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center is a brand new, state-of-the-art medical facility designed to meet the changing healthcare needs of Prince George’s County residents. It is the centerpiece of a long-term strategy to improve healthcare services in the community.

Completed in June 2021, the new medical center is a 220 bed replacement facility for the aging Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly. Offering a full range of acute care and outpatient services, including trauma care, emergency care, surgical services, heart health, women’s health and behavioral health, this new Medical Center offers its community a centralized experience for all their healthcare needs. The facility is operationally efficient and designed to create a supportive, therapeutic environment for healing.

Next door to the hospital, an ambulatory care center, currently in design, will provide convenient access to outpatient care services for the community.  Located adjacent to a Metro station, the medical center will ultimately anchor a thriving, pedestrian-friendly mixed-use development.

Grimm + Parker Architects provided exterior design architecture on the team.
