We’re excited to welcome a new face to the Wilmot Sanz team – Josh, a registered architect in Pennsylvania and Maryland with a unique path to healthcare design and a passion for patient-focused environments.
Josh’s story starts in Chambersburg, PA, where his love for design took root early on. Like many architects, he was a Lego kid who was fascinated by how things fit together. But his real entry into the world of architecture happened when he was just 10 years old, working with his dad and a local builder to draft plans for a house that ended up being built right down the street from where he lived. Watching it come to life sparked a lifelong interest in how buildings are made, down to the last nut and bolt.
While Josh didn’t start his career in healthcare, it’s where he found his calling. He openly shares that growing up, he had a strong aversion to hospitals and doctor visits—something many patients can relate to. That discomfort evolved into motivation: he wanted to design healthcare environments that help people feel calm and confident the moment they arrive. His goal? Better care through better spaces—where quality is evident from the parking lot to the patient room.
He offers over a decade of hands-on design experience, including deep exposure to MEP coordination and healthcare facility planning. After years as a mechanical designer (yes, he really does love the technical side), he transitioned into architecture full time, honing his expertise in outpatient clinics, surgery centers, and pediatric spaces.
Outside of architecture, Josh is a proud dad, a former aspiring songwriter (yes, really—he once pitched a song to Kesha while working with Universal Music Publishing Group in Nashville), and a self-proclaimed guitar guy, even if the instrument now mostly hangs on the wall.
He’s also passionate about helping aspiring architects. His advice? Find the right mentor early, get out on construction sites, and always keep learning—especially when it comes to healthcare codes and clearances (he swears by the FGI Guidelines, and we’re pretty sure he’s read them cover to cover).
We’re thrilled to have Josh join our healthcare studio. His technical acumen, heartfelt motivation, and storytelling spirit are a great fit for our culture and clients alike.
Welcome to Wilmot Sanz, Josh!
