Completed in 2004, the centerpiece of a major campus expansion and renovation effort at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is a 162 bed patient tower, featuring 30 observation beds, 12 critical care beds, 86 medical/surgical beds, and 34 intermediate care beds. The patient rooms are designed to be universal to increase flexibility, and the majority are all private.

A tree lined boulevard guides pedestrians safely from parking to the new main entrance to the hospital. On the second floor, a new outpatient services mall features registration, pre-testing, women’s diagnostic services, and entries to imaging and ambulatory surgery.  New surgery facilities include four operating rooms, pre-op, PACU, and stage II recovery.  Other departments that have been renovated and modernized include SPD, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, labor/delivery, NICU, and pediatrics.

With hospitality styled furnishings, indirect lighting, patient floor carpet, millwork and natural finish materials, the facility has a residential character. Separating staff/service and patient/visitor circulation improves flow throughout the building and contributes to the non institutional ambiance. Interior landscaped courtyards for public and staff bring light and views into the building. A glass atrium with a communicating feature stair separates the two courtyards.

A subsequent project added a 950 car parking structure.
