Washington Hospital Center
Master Plan
Wilmot Sanz has been selected as the master plan architect for
the Washington Hospital Center. Our role is to take the Hospital's
strategic business plan and develop an expansion and renovation
strategy to allow the Hospital to meet its strategic goals with
a phased implementation. The priorities identified in the strategic
plan and then addressed in the master plan were: the need for a
new state-of-the-art emergency department, replacement and expansion
of the critical care beds, consolidation of the cardiac and vascular
programs, expansion of the cancer center, replacement of out dated
inpatient units and a new parking garage.
The accepted master plan expands the campus in three locations;
the first phase would be a new emergency department and critical
care tower on the West side of the campus. The next phase would
be the consolidation and expansion and replacement of several inpatient
nursing units in a new tower on the East side of the campus. The
new East Tower will also serve as the new main entrance and link
to a new 2,000 car parking garage. The cancer center will be expanded
vertically or internally with space vacated by one of the new expansion
projects.
