Master plan for nation's leading eye care research center
The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore is the nation's leading facility for ophthalmologic
care and research. Located on the Johns Hopkins Hospital Campus,
the facility is currently housed in the original Wilmer Building,
the Woods Building and the more recent Maumenee Building.
These three
existing buildings are contiguous and attached and provide approximately
214,000 SF of clinical, research and administrative space. Pressure
for additional space in recent years has required the annexing of
space in several nearby buildings for both bench and clinical research.
Wilmot Sanz's responsibilities included interviewing division personnel
to identify functional and space deficiencies, current and projected
case loads and current and future research initiatives. From the
interviews, Wilmot Sanz projected future space needs that would
become the basis for the Master Plan.
Following the development of the master plan, Wilmot Sanz designed the architecture and interiors of the new building. Healthcare Portfolio: Wilmer Eye Institute
