Framework for modern, accessible outpatient facilities in a growing suburban location
The Lorton Healthplex is an expansion of Inova's commitment
to community-based health care serving the needs of Northern Virginia's
healthcare consumers in an outpatient setting.
The Healthplex will include an emergency department, a variety
of outpatient services including diagnostic imaging, a shell space
for a future surgery suite and space for physicians' offices.
The four-story steel structure will be designed to accommodate
vertical expansion as need develops. Horizontal expansion at the
ground floor can also provide the basis for expansion on the upper
floors.
The building's modern aesthetic will develop around an economical
rectilinear plan, articulated by a combination of brick veneer colors
and aluminum curtain wall and window detailing. Curtain wall tower
and canopy elements will define and identify the separate entries
for the ED and main building. Their strong geometry will provide
the architectural expression that can be used to create a branding
element for future Inova healthplexes.
Special attention is given
to the look and feel of public areas in an effort to "deinstitutionalize"
their ambiance. Hospitality-styled furnishings, indirect lighting,
carpet, millwork and natural-finish materials used in a contemporary
fashion distinguish this facility from the typical healthcare
setting.
