A comprehensive modernization and expansion of a community hospital

“Interior design” maintains the continuity of the overall design concepts. Through the use of lighting, materials, and furnishings, it further defines and supports the circulation, function, and articulation of spaces established by the architectural program. It adds emotion to raw space and clarifies its use.

The renovation and expansion of Howard County General Hospital will enable the hospital to increase its services within the community while also improving its existing building systems and facilities. A major addition will provide a new 47-bay emergency department, a 6-bed pediatric inpatient nursing unit, a 17-bed neonatal intensive care unit, a 12-bed birthing department, and expanded facilities for maintenance and engineering. The renovations will create a new 16-bed intensive care unit and an expanded imaging department. The modernization also includes upgrades to the hospital»s mechanical/electrical systems.
